A Forsworn Fantasy

Who’s the girl?

If you’ve been to my blog, or if you’ve seen posts about my blog (or shared it), you’d notice that the thumbnail for the embedded content is some pink-haired anime girl. You might also be wondering why that is.

If you don’t want to read the entire post and you’re just interested in the who, and not the why, how, when or where, then here it is: the pink haired girl is named Nyx, and she’s going to be one of the main characters in the third book of my series The Forsworn Cycle. If you want to hear more about the series or the book I’m writing, or the character of Nyx, then by all means, subscribe to the blog and stay tuned.

A few years ago now, I was still writing, but I wasn’t really “out there” yet. I had no public presence, besides a Twitter/X account with 4 followers. I thought to myself, what would a good way to get out and show my art to the world? The answer I came to was, rather unfortunately, being a VTuber.

Now, I’m not trying to say that VTubers are bad, or that watching them is bad. It’s more so that I was attempting to concoct a scheme that would gain me as much attention as possible, instead of trying to do something true to myself that would gain me actual fans instead of numbers on a screen.

During my time scheming, I had a lot of art made. One of these art pieces was a portrait of Nyx, who at the time, was stage-named Seraph, and was set to be my online VTuber persona. You may notice that I’m a man, so why would I use a female avatar?

Easy. Attention. VTubers with female avatars are by-and-large far more popular than male ones, even if there is a male human being behind it.

So there you have it, the story of the girl in the thumbnail. I never did go on to actually do VTubing, but as you can see, I did go on to do streaming (watch me live here).

If people want, I can do a character profile of Nyx sometime in the future, as well as the other characters in my novels. For now though, it’s back to writing for me.
